Plugins are written in plain JavaScript against a documented API — no special account or approval process to get started. Load one locally while you build it, then publish it to the community directory when it's ready.
Because everything a plugin touches is still just a folder of text files, a plugin can misbehave without ever putting your notes at real risk — worst case, you turn it off and your files are exactly as you left them.
